A small laundry renovation can sometimes be a juggling act as we balance the importance of getting everything you need into a small space, whilst maintaining it’s beauty, but this is all part of the challenge.
What was once just a room to do laundry in is now getting the love and attention it deserves, especially with the amount of time we are required to spend in it when keeping up with the washing of young kids.
Recently, I had the pleasure of working with a family of four to redesign their laundry to not only make it aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but to create a multi-functional space.
This small laundry renovation reflected simplicity and functionality in it’s finished state, all with the added bonus of creating a powder room for the family and their guests – Scroll down for all the before & after inspiration!
The client
The client is a family our of four living in Adelaide, with two small boys, the laundry is a hub for washing endless sports uniforms just as a start. Living a busy family lifestyle of full-time work, school drop offs and sports runs, having a functional laundry that allowed things to feel in order was the start to creating a calm home.
The home
A two-bedroom home with one bathroom and a separate toilet meant that every space needed to be considered for functionality. The separate toilet is accessed from the laundry so to ensure the highest level of functionality, the laundry needed to double as a powder room space.
The inspiration
In three words – Clean. Fresh. Organised.
These words defined the decisions that were made along the way and essentially led us to closed cupboard storage to ensure a clean look and allowing the bench top to remain clear. A fresh colour palette of bright whites and cool wood tones was selected and also tied in with their recently renovated kitchen. And organised, this speaks for itself but as part of this renovation we also organised the linen cupboard to free up space and ensure everything was easily found.
The result
There are some renovations that just speak for themselves and the before and after photos of this small laundry renovation needs no words. Plus to top it all off, you know you have a created a space that is functional when each time you have visited since, the laundry is clear of clutter staying true to it’s core of being clean, fresh and organised!
Things we love
- The custom designed hanging rail above the basin. This not only provided the perfect place to hang the indoor plant & bring life in to the laundry, but also provides a space to hang washing inside if it’s raining outside.
- The white basin, allowing the space to feel like a powder room, yet it’s still deep enough to be functional for a laundry as you can fit a bucket underneath or handwash your delicate pieces. And it’s great value from Ikea.
- The wall mounted shelf as its a space to keep the daily things you need and want in your laundry/powder room. Fresh handtowel, washing powder, candles and still keep the bench clear.
