How to style your indoor plants?

April 10, 2019

As our obsession for indoor plants grows, we take a look at the different uses for styling indoor greens at home and is there such a thing as too many pots? Where to style your pots? And where you can shop our favourite indoor pots, and outdoor too.

Pots for a shelf

Create the perfect ‘shelfie’ with a small pot and layers of your favourite decor items from hard cover books to unique vessels, adding a plant to this mix will bring instant life. But, the hard part can often be finding a pot that is small enough to fit comfortably on your shelf or mantle but big enough to house a plant that is going to be impactful for the space.

We have sourced our top favourite pots that are perfect for styling on your shelf or small spaces inside the home.

When shopping for a small pot for a shelf, please remember to measure the depth of your shelf first, have an understanding of how tall the plant will grow or how much room you have for the plant to grow up in height, especially if you have shelf above.

Heres a couple of our favourites…

OyOy Pot from Design Stuff

This pot is perfect for a shelf, as even without a plant, it’s sculptural form looks perfect.

Shop at DesignStuff.com.au

Zakkia podium pots from local favourite, Oscar & Willow

The podium pot by Zakkia are a classic feature, available in black & white and a range of sizes.

You can shop online at Oscar & Willow or visit there store on King William Road, South Australia

As we are not all green thumbs and choosing the right plant for your indoor space (or shelf) can be tricky, we recommend getting in touch with Sharon at Potted Thoughts, not just for her incredible range of pots (that already come planted, no need for a trip to Bunnings) but for her wide-spread plant knowledge.

As a qualified horticulturalist, Sharon will ensure that the plant you choose is going to thrive in it’s location.

The ‘hero’ Pot

Are you on the hunt for a hero pot that is going to create interest and house your favourite plant at the home or office? Maybe it’s for your prized fiddle leaf which finds you celebrating with the growth of every new leaf or a beautiful indoor tree like an Olive Tree, which is being named the new ‘fiddle leaf’ or a dramatic banana leaf palm adding that instant ‘holiday feeling’ to your home.

When it comes to feature pots, we always go to our online source The Balcony Garden. With showrooms located in Melbourne and Sydney, you can pop in store for all the inspo you need or shop online as with national delivery, it’s easy to find the pot you love.

Clusters of Pots

To create an instant hit of lush greenery in your home, we love clustering pots together either on the front porch to welcome your guests or in a corner of your living room (think the corner where you might place your Christmas tree).

To get this look just right, it’s essential to create layers with your pots using different size pots at the back and smaller at the front. And doing the same with the plants. I love the look of using all the same colour pots, but different textures, sizes and then different plants to create texture and interest.

Creating this look with what you already have can be as simple as painting 3-5 pots all in the same colour or various tones of one colour and placing them together. If you don’t have enough pots, sourcing pots online or second hand at bargain prices and painting them up is an economical way to create the stylish and impactful look.

Finally, not sure what you want? how to style it? Don’t worry, we have done the hard work for and created a Pinterest Board to give you all the inspiration you need. Just click HERE for your Pinterest inspiration.
